Tradition in Transition: South Asian Flavors Through History, Migration and Identity

from $45.00

AlaapNYC is thrilled to invite you to Tradition in Transition: South Asian Flavors Through History, Migration and Identity on November 19th, to immerse yourself in a talk on South Asian food history along with a food demonstration and sampling of delightful bites.

In any tradition or celebration, food takes centrestage. The flavors we enjoy, the ingredients we use, and the spices with which we season our dishes represent centuries of global connection and exchange. As we head into the festive season in New York, we will come together, no matter where we are,  over our favorite dishes, ones that reflect personal and family histories and evoke memories of past holidays.

Join us on Thursday November 19th at 6.30pm as Professor Krishnendu Ray explores historical global food pathways, and examines how the South Asian immigrant sensibility is expressed through culinary adaptive behaviors, and Chef Rachel Gurjar who uses recipes from her newly released cookbook “East to East” to demonstrate a couple of dishes that we can easily use in our own homes.

Drinks and further light bites sampled from Chef Rachel’s cookbook will be served during the evening and guests will have the opportunity to purchase copies of the book.

Entry is limited to ticketed guests only.
